4 beautifully crafted yurts and a new Shepherd's Hut, each with own extensive raised decking, campfire pit and cooking facilities plus a fully equipped communal "Safari kitchen", a brand new cob pizza oven and a newly renovated barn for meals, games and hanging out. Set in an idyllic 3 acre meadow, close to the beaches of Southwold, Walberswick, Aldeburgh and Snape and the beautiful Waveney River. Quiet lanes for cycling, rivers and beaches for swimming and plenty for families to do. Recommended by Guardian Travel; one of Cool Places' Best British Glampsites.
Our idyllic yurt site is perfect for anyone who wants to get away from it all: couples looking for a romantic break (Barn Owl Yurt is recommended!); families who want to relax and let the children enjoy exploring the paths and playing hide-and-seek in the long grass, build dens in the copse and dig their first new potatoes from the veg beds; groups of families who want to spend time together; small birthday or anniversary celebrations making use of the great space in the barn. We've also been delighted to welcome several sets of honeymooners - after all, what could be more romantic than sitting round the campfire, watching the stars come out whilst the owls hoot in the trees and the hedgehogs snuffle through the long grass?
The yurts and Shepherd's Hut are all furnished to a high standard, with "proper" double beds for adults and fold out futons and roll-out mattresses for children. The yurts all sit on spacious decking with their own cooking and bar-b-q facilities and each has their own brick lined firepit for that essential campfire (we even keep a stock of marshmallows for toasting!). The facilities are new and to a high standard with two indoor showers and two (very popular!) heated outdoor "woodland" showers.
There's a covered area for cooking in the courtyard when the weather's less good, and this year we've built our own pizza oven from cob - you are welcome to get it going yourself or join one of our regular pizza evenings. There's plenty of space in the newly renovated barn for eating (great if there's a group of you and there's also full-sized table tennis and table football as well as adult-sized bikes to borrow for exploring the quiet lanes. There's lots to do for everyone - brewery tours, riverside pubs, beaches, beaches, shops, lighthouses, wildlife, canoes, boat trips and more!
We're proud of our green credentials - in 2014 we were awarded the Suffolk Carbon Charter Gold award and in 2015 we won the award for Sustainable Tourism. What does this mean for you? Mainly that you can enjoy a relaxing holiday with the minimum of carbon emissions knowing that behind the scenes we're working hard to make that as easy as possible for you, whether it's collecting you from the local train station, showing you the collection of bikes you can borrow to explore the local lanes, or just regularly re-filling the environmentally friendly wood pellet boiler that ensures your showers are always piping hot! The wood for campfires and the wood-burners in the yurts is all locally sourced and nothing on-site relies on oil or gas to power it. (We're always happy to talk about our solar pv and solar thermal panels too, just ask!).
